During our Big Southwest Road Trip, I decided to show Kid 3 Carlsbad Caverns. I was there as a child, with my dad, so even though I knew it was an awe-inspiring, majestic, magnificent place, I had already seen it. It wouldn’t be the thrill it had once been. Therefore, I decided to let Kid 3 roam around and focus my energies on something I had not experienced before: the lunchroom.

Since we started planning our round-the-world trip and move to Paris, people have asked me a lot of questions about our motivation and purpose. They wanted to know why I like to travel so much, why I want to move to another country. Some think it’s an great idea. Some think we’re crazy. Some think it’s a waste of time. I think it’s a grand adventure, but I agree that it’s rather unorthodox. But really, why do I like to travel? And why do it in such a big way?

Blue Bells ice cream tastes like grocery store ice cream to me, even though it’s Texas’ pride and joy. In and Out hamburgers are pretty good, but not better than other California fast food burgers. Why all the hype?

“But Yvonne,” you say, “why would I, a mature responsible homeowner in a stable relationship, ever need to crash with anybody? Not only do I have an extremely predictable lifestyle, Corporate America has me covered during all transitions!”

Well, good for you. However, you never know what might happen. You might be between jobs and Corporate America lets you down, between relationships, sick, between houses, or between awesome opportunities which require you to let go of your house. Just in case, read on.

Our Southwest road trip, the first leg of our round-the-world trip, has begun! We have hiked mountains and canyons, eaten Tex Mex and New Mexican, and soaked in natural hot springs on the banks of the Rio Grande. We also survived the heat wave in Phoenix--118 degrees!

I’ll be covering many of our adventures in my blog, but my new Facebook page will have pictures, links, and smart remarks that aren’t on the blog. Follow it to see these goodies and keep track of where in the world I am!
