Paris in the Snow

When it snowed in Paris this February, everybody was shocked.
It was the first time it had snowed in several years, and the city just couldn’t handle it. The Seine is still well over its banks, so Paris had two weather events happening simultaneously--flooding and snowing. How much can one city take? Actually, it could take a lot. People were still sitting outside the cafes, drinking coffee under the heat lamps.

Even though Paris is pretty far north, they don’t have snow plows, salt, or snow shovels. They did have school closures, empty grocery store shelves, and transportation problems. The metros kept going, but the buses stopped and trucks couldn’t get into the city. Some people abandoned their cars on the freeways. Cars kept going inside Paris, but nobody felt good about that because snow tires and chains are much too bulky to be chic.

Actually, it was just like Texas. I grew up in Texas, and it usually snows two or three days per year there. Everything shuts down and kids get to stay home from school and play outside. It’s a great system!

Here is Paris in the snow.

Well, climate change is real. Glad you stayed warm and hope you drank lots of good tea or coffee. Wish I'd walked up to Sacre Coure
Love you, Suzanne

Next time we'll go up Sacre Couer. It's one of my favorite views of the city, and I'll gladly take you there.

These pictures are absolutely gorgeous. I have visited Paris 4 times and am basically in love with it. All of these places are familiar to me and bring back memories of my visits. The city is as wonderful as these photos portray. Thanks so much for sharing them.

Hi, Connie,

Thanks so much for your nice comments! The snow was really beautiful, and I didn't mind if it shut down the city for a couple of days. However, next time they forecast snow, I'll stock up on groceries and clear my schedule. Pajama days!
